In 1992, the Cook family, Ross, Marlene, Steve and Brett, bought their first 2 trucks and a bobcat and began work on the Gold Coast. Ross drove one truck, a 4 year old Ford Louisville, Brett on the bobcat, in a 1970 Acco, a driver in an older Ford Louisville and Marlene and Steve in the office. As money was tight they did everything themselves, including every Sunday washing and greasing the trucks and bobcat.

It’s testament to their work ethic and their business acumen that business steadily increased and they had, by 2000, added a Truck and Dog, 5T Excavator and 3 more trucks to the fleet. They had approx. 62 sub-contractors on the books, including bobcat owner operators, excavator owner operators and 10mt tipper owner operators. The company’s reputation was growing amongst the earthmoving world.

During this time, they had also acquired the mining rights to a sand pit in Jacobs Well, where they mined sand, stockpiled soil and mulches and produced a first grade washed sand which was much sought after by local concrete companies, including Readymix (as it was known then, now Holcium), Hymix and Pioneer. This meant purchasing Loaders, 20t, 21t, 30t and 33t Excavators, a Wash Plant and various other Sand and Soil Screens and earthmoving equipment.

During the last few years, they have purchased their own fleet of trucks, replacing most of the sub-contractors, which has proved to be advantageous to the company.

They now have 117 pieces of machinery and trucks and the business is, even through the economic downturn, still growing from strength to strength with large customers such as Fulton Hogan, Roadtek, Boral, Seymour Whyte and Origin D2G with whom they proudly do business with.
